This piece is a high resolution print.
(Original is made of Melted MN ice, spit, tears, watercolor & ink on paper)
1.24.26
This quilt design has an abstract Selburose with eight petals (a common theme in Norwegian quilting for protection & guidance, very similar to the Lakota Morning Star design & sacred geometry themes) above 3 log cabin designs (a reference to a historical signal for safe space). Even though because of the grog, grit, salt & extremely emotionally heavy energy in the material, it still resulted in radiating lines that look like cardiogram images or sound waves & bright spots with little messy edges that merge into each other. The paper acted differently, the salty liquid acted differently than any other water I’ve worked with, certainly the inks moved differently & the poetics of trying to work with that slop was heavy, but I hope this brings some feeling of comfort and resilience in a way that feels familiar.
